Providing an environment suitable for having and raising children
In addition to providing an environment in Gunma Prefecture where children can grow up healthy, the community as a whole is working to create an environment where you can have children without worry and find joy in raising them.
Free medical care for children junior high school-aged and younger
In October 2009, Gunma Prefecture was first in the country to make inpatient and outpatient medical care free for children until they graduate junior high school.
With the cooperation of municipal governments, Gunma Prefecture subsidizes children’s medical fees regardless of where they live in the prefecture so that children can receive medical care free from worry.
This completely free medical care for children until junior high school graduation, with no income limit or individual payments, is a special feature of our prefecture, and it is the easiest system to use in the entire country.
Gunma Prefecture operates an air ambulance that takes doctors and nurses to the scene of emergencies.
It has been shown that prompt treatment by emergency department doctors improves survival rates and reduces residual disabilities.
Since the air ambulance can fly across the entire prefecture within 20 minutes from when a call for service is made, it is possible to provide quick emergency medical care even in locations far from emergency medical facilities.
Providing advanced medical care
Gunma Prefecture not only provides advanced, specialized medical care in the fields of cardiology, oncology, psychiatry and pediatrics at the four prefectural hospitals, but we also strive to provide high quality medical care with the cooperation of Gunma University, local foundation hospitals, medical associations, municipal governments, etc.
Heavy Ion Radiotherapy Facility
The heavy ion radiotherapy facility established in collaboration with Gunma University has been conducting treatment since June 2010.
There are 5 such facilities in the country, but this facility is the only one established in a university hospital.
Compared to past radiotherapy treatments, heavy ion radiotherapy uses a highly concentrated dose to destroy cancer cells more effectively, treating cancer in a short period of time and with few side effects. This makes it the world’s most advanced cancer treatment.
